Lesson 4 Quanzhou Confucius Temple

Liu Siyu

I. Greeting

Good afternoon, boys and girls. First of all, I would like to talk something about host family for two German girls. They just graduated from senior high school. Before they go to university, they have a gap year to do some meaningful things and get some credits for their university, liking coming here to learn Chinese in Quanzhou. They will stay here from November to April, 2020. If you take the girls back to your home and offer them a separated room, including meals, you may also gain some benefits. For example, you can learn much English and practise perfect English every day without pay. You may make foreign friends and communicate frequently. Also, you will pick up some European culture and have a better understanding of western countries. In addition, you can receive the allowance of 1000 yuan per month for taking one German girl. So if you are interested, you can tell me or go to the International Exchange Center in our school, which is on the second floor in the executive building.

Another important event is about the Gymnasiade. The Gymnasiade, or World School Summer Games, is an international multi-sport event which is organized by the International School Sport Federation. The 18th Gymnasiade will be held from Oct. 17 to Oct. 24 in 2020 in Jinjiang. Now, our school is trying to get 5 to 10 promotion ambassadors. Their are two requirements: First, good image. It means you need to leave a good impression to others. When others see you, they will have a good mental picture of what you look like. The second requirement is good English. You must excel at speaking English. It would be a great honor if you can be chosen to be the ambassador. So now it is your time to show off yourselves!

Now let’s welcome another five students to come here and write down their Chinese name and English name on the Bb, and introduce their hobbies.

II. City locations.

Now can you guess why I show you the picture? This is my son. But he is not who I want to talk. I want to talk about the stone statue. Any one who knows who he is. Of course, he is Confucius. Where is the stone statue? In our school, both in junior and senior campuses, there are the statues. In Quanzhou, the most famous spot is Quanzhou Confucius Temple. We are all familiar with Confucius, right? His Chinese name is Kong Zi, 551479 BC, Chinese philosopher and teacher of ethics. His doctrines were compiled after his death under the title The Analects of Confucius. He has many famous sayings.

III.  City Game.

Now we are going to play a game. The students in the last row will read a famous saying in English by Confucius and they need to repeat the sentence to the students in front without reading the note. So the sentence will be recited to the front students forward to the first row. The first row needs to write the sentence in Chinese on the blackboard. The fastest group wins! Now each group get one sentence.
