2004全国卷1

Dear Peter,

I read in a newspaper today that a ―Learn Chinese, Sing Chinese Songs Foreigners’ Talent Show will be held in Beijing Television Station on July 18. I know you like singing, and you are in Beijing during that period. I think this is a good chance for you to show your singing talent, and how well you’ve learned Chinese. If you would like to try, you have to go to the TV station to sign up before the end of June. If there is anything I can do for you, I would be more than glad to help. (共101字)

Dear Andy,

I am glad to learn that you are coming to China and will stay at my home. My parents and I are very pleased to have you with us. Now let me tell you what we have arranged for you. I know the school will organize a lot of things for you to do in the morning, but in the afternoon, I’ll show you around and take you to some places of interest. We’ll mostly stay at home in the evening watching TV, playing games, and meeting people.

I’m sure we’ll have a wonderful time and enjoy each other’s company. I’m looking forward very much to meeting you soon. (共111字)

Dear Sir/Madame,

I saw your advertisemnet on the Internet. I’m writing for more information about the day tour to London. As a student at Oxford University, I’d like to know if you have any special price for students. As for the money you charge, does it cover the entrance fees for visiting the places listed? What about lunch? Is it included? Or do I need to bring along my own food? How long will the tour last? Since I need to prepare my lessons for the next day, I’d like to know the time to return. Besides, is there any time for shopping? I really want to have a look at the big stores in London.

Looking forward to your reply (共109字)

Dear Editor,

Recently, our class has had a heated discussion about whether the Beijing Zoo should be moved out of the city. Some of my classmates are in favor of the move. They say large crowds of tourists to the zoo will result in traffic jams. They also say that once moved, animals will have more space and better living conditions in the suburbs. However, other students are against the idea, saying that the Beijing Zoo, built in 1906, has a history of 100 years, and is well–known at home and abroad. So it should remain where it is. What’s more, moving may cause the death of some animals. Whether to move or not, this is a big decision which has to be made by people in Beijing. (共129字)

Dear Bob,

Thank you for your last letter asking about our library. Our library is the center of the school. There is a beautiful garden in front of it and our classroom building is right behind it. The library is big. When you get inside, you will see many shelves full of books on different subjects. There are also lots of newspapers and magazines. We borrow books and do some reading in the library. According to the rule, every student can borrow up to 5 books each time and keep them for 10 days. It is open from 9 am to 7 pm from Monday to Friday and closed on weekends. We all like our library very much. (共118字)

Dear Peter,

I’m writing to ask whether you are able to do me a favor. I want to have a pen friend, hopefully a girl in her early twenties, and with interests similar to mine. In my mind, she is someone who is interested in travelling, swimming, and playing table tennis. Besides, it would be better for her to have a pet dog as I have kept one at home for some time. With such a pen friend, I hope I can share with her our experiences in travelling, taking care of pets, or whatever we have in common. And I believe I will improve my English by doing so and learn more about her country.

I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. (共125字)

Dear Peter,

I’m glad to receive your letter asking for my advice on how to learn Chinese well. Here are a few suggestions. First, it is important to take a Chinese course, as you’ll be able to learn from the teacher and practice with your fellow students. Then, it also helps to watch TV and read books, newspapers and magazines in Chinese whenever possible. Besides, it should be a good idea to learn and sing Chinese songs, because by doing so you’ll learn and remember Chinese words more easily. You can also make more Chinese friends. They will tell you a lot about China and help you learn Chinese. Try and write me in Chinese next time.

Best wishes (共119字)

Mrs Wilson, I’m going out shopping, and won’t be back until about 5:00 pm. I have taken with me the two books you asked me to return to the City Library. At about 1 o’clock this afternoon, Tracy called, saying that she couldn’t meet you at Bolton Coffee tomorrow morning as she has something important to attend to. She felt very sorry about that, but said that you could set some other time for the meeting. She wanted you to call her back as soon as you are home. She has already told Susan about this change. Dear Sarah,

Thank you for your letter asking about the rebuilt Qianmen Street. Here is something about it. Qianmen Street is a famous street of over 600 years old. Along this 800-metre street, there are more than 300 shops. As the street is in the center of Beijing, just to the south of Tian’anmen Square, it’s very convenient to get there by bus. You may take Buses No.17, 69 or 59.subway Line 2 has a stop there too. Qianmen Street is a pedestrian street, but there are trolley cars to take you not only to the shops, but also to theaters and teahouses where you can experience a truly Chinese way of life, I’m sure you’ll like it. Dear Editor-in-Chief,

Congratulations on, the, 5’h anniversary, of Global Mirror! I’m a regular reader of your newspaper. I like it very much mainly for the following two reasons. First, it covers both national and international news so that, by simply turning the pages, I can learn all important things that have happened during the week. Equally attractive are the success stories of world-famous people, which help me understand how a person can work hard to make the world a better place. As a young student, I suggest that Global Mirror carry articles to guide us in our English learning , and I hope that it will become even more popular. (共110字)

How are you? I wonder if you could sell some Chinese knots for me. I made them myself with red silk threads, cloth and other materials. They look really beautiful in the shape of a diamond, about 5 inches long and 4 inches wide. In china, these knots stand for friendship, love and good luck. People can either give them as gifts to friends or hang them in their houses. They are only 12.99 US dollars each. If anyone wants to know more about the knots, let them write to me. Also, do let me know if you need further information. Thank you!

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a student in China and I plan to go to Britain to attend a summer school during the vacation. I’ve seen your ad, and I’d like to know something more about your six -week English course. First, when will the course start and how many class hours are there per week? Besides, I wish there would not to be too many students in a class. I’d also like to know how much I have to pay for the course and whether accommodation is included. Would there be host family or university dormitory?

I’m looking forward to your early reply. (共103字)

I’ll do a good job in whatever I do. In my free time, I’ll continue to take regular exercise, such as swimming, running and various ball games. On my holiday, I’ll travel around the world. In a word, my life will be much richer and more colorful. (共113字)

And we would specially welcome articles about how Americans spend their holidays and festivals, and the life of American high school students. You can write anything relevant so long as its interesting and informative. 400 words would be fine. Could we have your articles before June 28?
